Static electricity generated during the coffee grinding process can lead to an uneven distribution of coffee grinds in the portafilter, which can cause channelling.  Channeling occurs during the extraction of espresso when the water flow is not evenly distributed over the grinds, but instead, and due to the resistance of the grinds, channels and flows away quickly using the path of least resistance.  This results in the extraction being insufficiently extracted and/or uneven.

8 fine needles evenly disperse the coffee grinds so they are distributed to achieve an even flow of water and uniform extraction, effectively reducing the channel effect and optimising the stability of the extraction to enhance the flavour profile in the cup.
