FAQ's

How long will my beans last?

Beans start to loose their freshness and flavour 14-21 days after roasting due to the release of gases. This alters the composition and characteristics within the bean and this is why Arrosta Coffee subscribes to the fresh is best philosophy. It is better to buy little and often, rather than trying to make coffee with beans that are not fresh.

Why is my coffee pouring too fast?

There are a number of things this could be. Your grind could be too coarse with extra humidity in the air. Moisture in the air means you will be unable to tamp the coffee as tightly as normal, so water will flow through the basket too fast. Refer to the Arrosta Coffee training manual on grinding or, give us a call to discuss - we'd be happy to help. Interested in our Barista Workshops to help you with this? Get more info here!

What is the best machine for home use?

Every household is unique in terms of its coffee needs - unfortunately it's not a one size fits all solution. It's really about the total coffee experience, what you are wanting from your coffee machine and where you want to be able to brew it. Consideration also needs to be given to warranty issues and local servicing if anything goes wrong with your machine. If you are wanting to be able to make large volumes of coffees, you may need to consider a machine that has commercial componentry to ensure the steam pressure is able to keep up with the extraction as well as being able to steam milk simultaneously. Give us a call to discuss this with you and to test drive our domestic espresso machines. We are happy to make a time that suits you to come in to discuss your specific circumstances with us. Want to know more about machines?

How often do I need to get my machine serviced?

This is dependant on how often the machine is used, but generally about 1-2 times per year. Call us to talk about our scheduled servicing programme that ensures your machine will be regularly maintained and cared for. For more info on servicing and how to book click here!

Who owns Arrosta Coffee Roasting Co?

Founded in 2005 by Simon and Kirsty Fowler, Arrosta Coffee Roasting Co has come a long way from its modest beginnings in a small warehouse facility in Palmerston North, New Zealand.  When Simon and Kirsty first started out, their passion for bringing quality specialty coffee to the Palmerston North market drove them to quit their day jobs, equip themselves with knowledge, gain valuable industry experience, and invest in traditional roasting equipment so as to produce a market leading product.  This gave them the impetus to turn hard work and inspiration into an internationally recognised product and a booming online store.

We now serve customers all over New Zealand, Australia and into the United States and are thrilled to be a part of the forever changing, socially aware, yet quirky scene of the global specialty coffee industry.

How much and how long are your Barista Workshops?

Where does Arrosta Coffee come from?

We also offer single origin beans for filter and plunger use at home.  If you would like, when you buy your fresh beans, we are able to grind them to suit the way in which you will be using them.
